How to pack a backpack is a tricky affair. Packing your backpack is an art. No two persons are alike and what I like need not be preferred by others. If you are travelling round the world, here are a few tips on what to carry in your backpack.
The rule of thumb when it comes to backpacking is that less is more. The key to pack your backpack is minimalism. Always stick to this rule. You should learn to pack light.
If you overload your backpack bag with too many stuff, you will be boggled down by its overweight. You will end up with back pain and paying up more for your baggages. You might miss out few opportunities like more sightseeing, getting late to board the train/bus/flight etc. A well-loaded pack should feel balanced and stable when resting on your hips.
Packing your trip or school/college backpack is pretty simple with a few tips to make the process easier. First try to pack everything from the comfort of your home. Spread all the essentials/stuff on a clean floor. Visualize and confirm if you have got all the required things. Eliminate all that is not needed for you. Use a checklist to ensure you’ve got everything you need.
Most backpacks are designed with a top-loading opening to access the main compartment with a zippered front panel that folds open or a side zipper to hold items deeper in your pack. Your backpack can also feature a sleeping compartment that is a zippered stash near the bottom of the bag. All those less important items can be put to the bottom of the backpack. Place Heavier items in the center of your backpack so that it is not saggy or tippy.
If you are carrying liquid items, make sure the bottle cap is shut tightly. Pack the bottle upright to avoid any spill. Many new backpacks include a hydration reservoir sleeve.
Stash frequently used items within easy reach. This might include your sunscreen, sunglasses, lamp, insect spray, first-aid kit, snacks, gadgets, toiletries and sanitation items. You can also place these in external pockets, if your backpack has them.
Fill up all empty spaces. You can put small clothing items and cosmetics to your utensils or boxes. Tighten all compression straps. Opt for backpacks that are made with waterproof fabric else you will need a pack rain cover. Take along a few safety pins or duct tape in case a zipper fails.
While packing your backpack bags, the idea is to only have the basics on hand. Keep valuables in your wardrobe and have things that you don’t mind too much to replace. This way you need not worry more about pickpockets or scams. You still need to take care of important items like smartphones. Keep your friends or family informed so that you can contact them in case of any emergency.
T-shirts and towels are best rolled. Packing your backpack is not something you need to leave to the last minute. Plan well in advance. After all, a backpack is our companion throughout your academics or journey. So, if you don’t have one, go for shopping for the bag right now.
