Bird Watching @ Kairali – The Ayurvedic Healing Village !!

Hello All,

Kairali – The Ayurvedic Healing Village is an adobe to many birds, animals, and reptiles. In this post, I decided to showcase my clicks of fauna (mainly birds and reptiles) inside the Kairali Ayurvedic Healing Village campus. There are a number of rare migratory Indian birds as well as common birds that roam around the Kairali property.

Please note that all images are mine and copyrighted to me. Other than the birds, I also spotted few animals, reptiles, and insects that were interesting.I couldn’t capture all of them though. Birdwatching and wildlife photography requires a lot of patience. I even spotted a water snake but got terrified.

Below are the different types of birds and reptiles, I could spot around the Kairali Ayurvedic Healing Village and its peripheral boundaries:

Asian Koel:   They are a member of the cuckoo family.  What I spotted is a female with white and buff spots. It has a long tail.

Indian Pond Heron: Also known as PaddyBird, these are common in India near small water bodies. They have white wings and contrasting streaked olive and brown body. The camouflage is excellent. The one I spotted is a non-breeding plumage one. I also spotted this complete white heron near the wet farmland adjacent to Kairali.

Bronzed Drongo: It is a small bird that capture insects flying in the shade of the forest canopy. They are similar to the other drongos but the difference is in the patterns of gloss on their feathers. I also saw other variants like Ashy Drongo in the shade of gray and Black Drongo.

Black Hooded Oriole: These are shy breeder birds. This bird is predominantly yellow, with little black on wings and hood. This is a young male I guess.

Barbet: The Barbet is a short, stocky bird, with a leaf-green body and red throat. The bird makes a call ‘tuk-tuk’ which resemble the sound that a coppersmith makes by beating copper sheets with a mallet. The bird isn’t strikingly pretty.
