26 Dec Book Review: The Bestseller She Wrote by Ravi Subramanian !!
‘The Bestseller She Wrote’, is Ravi Subramanian’s take on love, extramarital affair, betrayal, jealousy, passion, redemption.
I have read his novel God is a Gamer before and I liked his work. It is said that this is Ravi’s first novel on love and is different from his previous works with banking backgrounds and crime thrillers.
The central character of the story is Aditya Kapoor. Aditya is an IIM Almunus, Bengaluru. He is a successful banker and celebrity author of many bestsellers. He is the best in the world of banking as well as writing. Tim Xavier is his boss.
Maya, Aditya’s wife is also an IIM Almunus, Bengaluru. She is an ex-banker and works in Dhirubhai Ambani International School at present.
Maya and Aditya are connected with a love marriage. They start dating during the IIM days. The couples after working abroad for a few years, settle in India.
Maya and Aryan on family front supports Aditya on his endeavors and social initiatives. Aditya and Maya have a satisfying career and life.
Everything goes well until Aditya comes across a young, charming girl named Shreya Kaushik who is an ambitious budding writer. She too is a student of IIM Bengaluru.
The story begins with Aditya visiting IIM Campus to share a speech on his career journey from banker to author. He talks about marketing a book to the reader as a product and suddenly a voice raises from the public against his opinion. The voice belongs to Shreya. Shreya’s logic is that a book denotes creativity of an author. Aditya gets irritated but calms down his anger and explains that there is so much of hard work put in by an author in writing a book; hence the same needs to be promoted. Shreya doesn’t accept his views. Aditya continues the speech.
After this incident, Sunaina, a close friend of Shreya criticizes her for behaving blunt with Aditya Kapoor’s talk. To mend and set things right Shreya drops him an appreciation email after reading one of his book.
Later on, as days pass by, Aditya goes to IIM Bengaluru once again to promote his new book along with Sanjay as the part of interviewing panel. Sanjay Narang is the Head of Human Resources in his bank and is a close friend of Aditya. Sanjay’s love is Diana. Diana, Sanjay and Aditya works in the same National Bank. Aditya often gets into conflict with Sanjay due to his strong dislike for Diana. Aditya and Sanjay decides not to bring anyone in between their friendship.
Aditya happens to meet Shreya again. Shreya gets hired in the same bank as management trainee. They are attracted to each other. To be a bestselling author is Shreya’s dream. She decides to pursue and take help from Aditya. Maya stays as a faithful wife. What happens when Maya finds out about Aditya and Shreya? Will hell break loose? What happens next? What is the kind of relationship between Aditya and Shreya? Could Shreya become a bestselling author? What happens to Sanjay and Diana?
Shreya publishes her bestselling novel but at what cost is something that needs to be found from the book.
The story has many twists like parallel love story of Sanjay and Diana, Maya travelling to Paris and catching Ebola. The climax end was interesting. The story is slow at the beginning but gets fast-paced as we flip through the pages. Once you start reading, you wouldn’t like to put it down.
The characters are well connected and developed. The language is simple and understandable. Ravi makes references to real characters in the real world like Chetan Bhagat and Ashwin Sanghi. The narration is informal with no unnecessary sub plots. There was an element of suspense that I kept guessing. The style is bollywood kind. The chapters are short. The story is very realistic and conveys a good message.
The cover page is unique and attractive. Overall, this book makes a good read. Get a copy and find out more for yourself!
