Hotel Thilanka, Kandy !

Hello All,

Hotel Thilanka is surrounded by the mist-veiled Hunnasgiriya Mountains and the lush Udawattaekelle natural reserve; it overlooks the great city of Kandy. It is situated very near to the Kandy city.

We have had a chance to stay at this beautiful hotel which is hidden a beautiful scenic location, Kandy.

We were welcomed by the staff with a welcome drink and they quickly completed the check-in formalities and explained about the room facilities, regarding, breakfast, dinner and about the restaurant timings. They were very guest friendly.

We got the best room I must say, it’s just opposite the lawn area and pool and we got to see one of the best scenic views from the lawn area. Rooms are compactable with the main door following a small sitting area and it ends up a sliding door giving way to the bedroom and behind that, they have separate urinals and bathroom.

The room is well maintained, with some artworks and a glass shelf, wherein they highlighted a Ruler’s costume. They have a small fridge and safe lockers. They have AC, but either AC or Fan can be used, not both together.

Bathrooms are smaller but clean. We took a shower and went to the lawn… It’s a wonderful scene and I can many tourists taking sunbath with beer. Next, to the Pool, some constructions works were going on and it was full of noise and dust. Still, that wasn’t bothering us due to its beauty.

Staying at this Hotel was good as there are some Major spots including Temple of Tooth Relic and Kandy Lake. After visiting Tooth temple and walk through Lake in the evening, we grabbed a Beer (800LKR/per bottle) and jumped inside the pool. That was the best feeling to dip ourselves in the water watching starts and moon plus chilled beer.

Its dinner time and we had food from the resort, this time we opted for “Ale carte” instead of Buffet. We had SriLankan Parotta with Egg Curry. They served it hot. Dinner with music was something which we never expected. We got our style food, i.e. South Indian style Egg curry.

Soon after dinner we went for a short walk and returned to the Hotel and sat in Lawn as Wi-Fi signal was less inside our rooms. After replying few emails we went to sleep, before entering hotel staff informed to lock the door properly as in the morning time there will be monkeys entering the hotel.

We locked our room and slept well. Woke up @ 9 am and after taking a shower we headed towards the restaurant for morning breakfast. They provide a variety of dishes including western and Lankan. Hoppers were available with stew. After filling our stomach with nice food and Coffee we checked out the hotel.

I definitely recommend this Hotel for the facilities they provide.  The only thing which needs to improve is the availability of Wi-Fi in rooms…
